Back in 2015, the Maryland Historical Society hosted Carol Elkins, Senior Vice-President and Specialist in the jewelry department of Sotheby's NY for a lecture on the Duchess of Windsor and her famous jewels. I was lucky enough to attend where I also had the opportunity to see items from the Duchess' wardrobe up-close, including her famous Monkey dress by Hubert de Givenchy which she donated to the MHS in the 60s.

The lecture was a thrill for me - Carol Elkins is a very engaging speaker and incredibly knowledgable about the Duchess' extensive jewellery collection. She covered the history of the jewels, the design process, and the messages inscribed on items that the couple gifted to one another throughout their 36 year marriage.

I spent the next few days doing research at the MHS, where the staff was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back again soon.

(I wore a Tibi Lobster dress that night, in the spirit of the Duchess.)
